Human Harmonics 2/2

For the first time in ten years, I’ve ceased the wandering.

Life has me staying closer to home now, helping care for my elderly mother. And with that has come something I haven’t had in years: the opportunity to build regular classes and physical practice back into my life.

Recently, I had my first Pilates reformer class. Only three of us in the class, there I was—huffing and puffing—feeling my body wake up and remember: Oh yes… I’m a dancer. I’m an athlete.

Then I caught myself in the mirror.

Ten years have passed. Ten pounds have arrived. And the body looking back at me didn’t match the image I’ve carried in my mind from decades of dancing, martial arts, surfing—and being photographed more than any human probably should be.

For a moment, I had a choice: judge what I saw, mourn what was… or deeply appreciate this body for everything it has carried me through.

I chose appreciation.

And from there, a fire lit—not to get my old body back, but to love and support the body I have now.

As I continue loving myself toward greater wholeness emotionally, mentally and spiritually—human and Divine in union—I’m remembering that wholeness includes this beautiful physical body too.

So today, a special thank you to my body.

May we all pause to appreciate these bodies that have carried us through so much—and love them forward from here.

When I was writing Dirty Dancin’ with the Divine, it was my first priority from the moment I woke until I laid my head upon my pillow. Whatever my body was doing—walking, driving, eating, tidying—my inner world was almost entirely with the book.

There was such simplicity, restfulness, and power in that kind of presence.

Now that the book is complete, my attention has turned toward building the ecosystem around it—the website, the offerings, the team, the ways to share it with you and to support you in your journey.

And I realized how much I missed simply being with the book and the knowledge contained within it, for it continues teaching me,—opening my heart again and again.

So here I am in the desert, fasting, with little to tend to beyond my body and the final edit.

The presence has returned.
The restfulness has returned.

And I’m deeply grateful for this time with Dirty Dancin’ with the Divine before I release it into the world.

Sometimes you just need a reset.

Life can pull us in so many directions. We step up, meet what’s in front of us, get the job done.

And then, somehow life rearranges itself and creates an opening we never could have predicted.

That happened for me this week: An unexpected opportunity to head to the desert for a 5 day fast—and I leapt. (Thanks RejuvenateWithJan)

Boy, did I need it.

To get back into my body. To be still. To sit beneath the desert night sky, wake with the early morning, and have the space to be fully present with my book as I make my way through the final redline edit before its launch.

I’ve lived long enough to know that life doesn’t often go as planned. Then a different door just opens.

The question is “am I paying attention enough to walk through it?”

For me, the question isn’t “how
much capacity do I have?” But rather, “what is the energy showing me internally and then how and when do I move externally?”

Internally, what I feel when I’m in creation mode with my new team, —moving the website, creating funnels, branding, messaging etc— it feels expansive. Fun. Inspiring. It gives me energy.

When I’m with my mom I feel honored and in acknowledgement that we are both doing some serious ancestral work.. holding each other’s hands through it— confessions, questions, support.

And when I’m handling her life— the physical frailty, the increasing need for help and motivation, new solutions, new docs, new meds— I feel a bevy of things: sadness, compassion, awe, anger. Anger that this intelligent, courageous, powerful woman, who worked so hard her whole life is now suffering such painful decline. Angry that my freedom has severely diminished.

It all exists simultaneously.

It’s such a reflection of these times in humanity: pregnant with possibility as we turn toward the shift — and weighted by the old ways of being, thinking, believing, operating. We are experiencing the transition period of birthing: both painful and promising.

Herein lies the edge of my growth: how do I move through the obvious difficulty while staying aware of potentials to move differently? With more love inclusive of myself.

For me it’s not about finding more courage or strength or belief in myself. For others it may be. But for me it’s about trusting my extraordinary capacity for compassion and awareness enough to be the decider of how things are handled so that I am not lost but also honored in the equation and process.

Divine Intelligence is moving through all of it on the path of least resistance toward the most harmonic outcome over all. In the difficulty lies the opportunity for mastery… mastery of attunement with the Intelligence ItSelf.

I tend to move about alone. It’s meditative. It’s restorative. My awareness is at a different level. My inner guidance system is on point.

But being with loved ones for a blast of togetherness is just as important. It helps my human self remember that in some way, it’s part of a tribe. Perhaps not in the way most would describe it— planning, building, creating together— but differently. Sharing love, respect and experiences that forge an energetic bond I carry with me wherever I go because it is a part of what I have become.

It reminds of the quote from A Course of Love:

Love creates
Like itself and is forever one with what’s created.

Let’s get
Out there and love … so we become
Love Itself

A picture paints a thousand words…

It was a bit surreal, spending time with everyone after all these years. Suddenly those young actors whose careers had only just begun—are now sporting that distinguished look of slight grey in the hair, wrangling children of their own and questioning the meaning of life beyond fame. And then there’s Holly, with whom I share this unspoken respect and knowing due to the careers we’ve both had—decades of work and a lifetime of being in the public eye that sharpened our bullshit meters, strengthened our will and opened our hearts to a sense of grace that simply is.

These are the moments that bring us deeper gratitude for one another, for the intense years we spent working together, and the amazing human beings those experiences have forged.
